Isle of Skye

Picture
Skye is a walkers' paradise!
The Cuillin (An Cuilthionn or An Cuiltheann) is a range of rocky mountains located on the Isle of
Skye. The true Cuillin is also known as the Black Cuillin to distinguish it from the Red Cuillin (na Beanntan Dearga, known locally as Red Hills) across Glen Sligachan. The Black Cuillin are the most spectacular and challenging mountains in Britain. Many of the peaks summits require scrambling or even rock-climbing to reach. The highest point of the Cuillin, and of the Isle of Skye is Sgùrr Alasdair
in the Black Cuillin at 992 m (3255 ft). The Red Cuillin hills are lower and, being less rocky, have fewer scambles or climbs.

Guided walks on the Isle of Skye can be arranged, but may involve at least 1 overnight stay on Skye. Contact me for information!

Cairngorms

Cairngorm plateau in winter.
The Cairngorms are a mountain range in the eastern Highlands of Scotland. They are situated in the Cairngorms National Park. The Cairngorms has the highest, coldest and snowiest plateaus in the British Isles and is home to 5 of the 6 highest peaks in the country (Ben Macdhui 1309m, Braeriach 1296m, Cairn Toul 1293m, Sgor an Lochain Uaine 1258m and Cairn Gorm 1245m).

The mountains are very popular for hill-walking, winter sports and climbing. However, the area can be very hazardous at times, with dangerous and unpredictable weather conditions. Because of this, all safety precautions must be taken whilst out in the mountains.

Want to learn how to dig a snow hole and stay the night in one? How to safely ascend/descend steep snow or ice, using ice axe(s) and/or crampons..? Learn the techniques for avalanche awareness, or ice-axe arrest..? Contact me at Best Nevis for an informal chat, or more information . . . .
